INVESTMENT
The money invested in Parc de l’Alba for urbanization and restoration as of December 2010 totaled close to 110 million euros, starting up the first public spaces and production buildings in Parc de l’Alba.
ALBA SYNCHROTRON
Construction of this scientific facility began at the end of 2006, led by a public consortium made up of the Spanish and Catalan governments. It was completed in 2008.
At present, technological equipment is being installed, which is to be made available to the scientific community at late 2011.
AND TECHNOLOGY AREAS
The landmark streets of Parc de l’Alba and its main urban service infrastructures, which include a new power substation and a combined power, heating and cooling plant, are being completed around the Alba synchrotron.
Progress made to date has allowed the construction of the first business buildings, like a new technology center for the financial institution “la Caixa” and will entail an investment of nearly 100 million euros.
The ending of first stage of development in Parc de l’Alba has allowed a large number of plots for scientific and technological activities to be placed on the market.
RESIDENTIAL AREAS
The Catalan Land Institute has built a public housing building that is pioneer in natural-resource savings and a model of energy efficiency for the forthcoming housing units in Parc de l’Alba.
During 2012, the first residential streets will be developed, where close to 1,000 public and private housing units will be built.
NATURE AREAS AND GREEN ZONES
The Consortium has been carrying out numerous projects to recover and enhance the ecosystems in Parc de l’Alba, including: connecting open spaces with wide crossings for animals and pedestrians, tearing down industrial buildings to create nature areas, restoring deteriorated land and defining 180 hectares of green zones.
Work on restoring the Parc de l’Alba biologic corridor and its system of urban parks began in late 2010.
